The Fourth Annual Kpop Convention

For the Fans By the Fans
A jam-packed super-event which gathered an astounding 6000 plus audience, this is one way to describe the successful Kpop Convention 4. With thier mission to raise funds for Gawad Kalinga Community Development Projects & the Philippine Animal Welfare Society, KCON 4 was the first and the biggest Fan -organized Kpop event in the Philippines. Fans of different Korean artists and idol groups gathered to enjoy and celebrate the Kpop Fever in Manila. The said event has gathered more than 50 fans’ clubs and each of them have their own booth where they showcased their love and support for their favorite Korean artists.

First held last December 2009, then the 2nd Phil Kpop Convention was held in December 11, 2010 at the PICC Forum while The 3rd Phil Kpop Convention was held in December 31, 2012 at the Megatent and the most recent was held on December 29,2012 in PICC Forums 1-3.

The Contests
The said event also highlighted the talents of Filipino Kpoppers through different contests and exciting performances!

There was the 4TH PHILIPPINE KPOP AWARDS where the fans hailed the best of the best in the Kpop world. Below is the list of the winners:

Rookie of the Year – EXO
Hottest Male Artist – JYJ – Kim Jaejoong
Hottest Female Artist – 2NE1 – Dara Park
Best Male Artist/Group – Super Junior
Best Female Artist/Group – 2NE1
Song of the Year – CN Blue – Hey You
Album of the Year – Super Junior – Sexy Free and Single
Globe’s Go Unli Kpop Fan club of the Year – Cassiopeia Philippines

On the other hand, The 3RD PHILIPPINE KPOP DANCE BATTLE heated up the stage and made the fans scream their hearts out to show their love and support for their favorite dance group. Each group grooved, pop and locked, and flew high with their breath-taking stunts to the tune of different songs from various Kpop Artists. In the end, the super energetic and full of action routine of Nemexis bagged the Grand prize, while Last year’s champs Se-Eon finished as a runner up.

In Kpop Singing Star, the finalists belted out their own rendition of Kpop songs. Harlene Jade Ballaret finished as a runner up while the group AMMA was declared as Champions.

The 3rd year of KPOP COS PLAY was also well participated. All dressed up just like their favorite Kpop Star, the contestants danced and sang to the tune of the hits of their idols. For solo category, Jasper Yang dressed up as G-Dragon got the coveted title, while Oh My Gee as Girls’ Generation bagged the grand prize for the groups.

After all the votes has been tallied in Facebook, 4 winners were selected for KPOP IDOL LOOK-ALIKE CONTEST! Jae Rigayen as Nam Jihyun of 4Minute, Micko Rivera as Nam Woohyun of Infinite, Mary Joy Baylon as Yoona of Girls’ Generation, and Kurt Othello Sadje as Siwon of Super Junior.

The Guests
Not only one but two (Yes you heard it right!) amazing Kpop groups, graced the event! F.CUZ and rookie group, A.Cian!

A.Cian (which means Ace of Asia + Musician) performed first. Guys namely, Seulgi, Crooge, Chanhee, Sehee and Sanghyeon formed the group. The group showed the Filipino fans what they can do and charmed them with their live performance of their singles Hit and Stuck. They greeted their fans with Filipino phrases “Mahal kita”, “Salamat po” and “Busog” (means Full), and their fans also known as AURA responded with all their might! After a short interview to get to know the boys, they fans had a chance to have their albums signed.

Not so long after A.Cian, F.Cuz ( pronounced as “Focuz”) heated up the stage up. F.Cuz “For Century Ultimate Zest” is a South Korean boy band managed by CAN Entertainment. Currently the group is composed of Jinon, Daegun, Raehyun, Kan, and Yejun . They sang their hits “Dreaming I” and an acoustic version of “Jiggy”. They also surprised the audience with their rendition of the WORLD FAMOUS “GANGNAM STYLE”. Right after a short break they also had a meet-and-greet and signed the albums bought by their fans onsite.

Games, Raffles and Prizes
In between performances and short breaks there were games were anybody could join. Prizes at stake, well its tickets for the upcoming Dream Kpop Fantasy Concert only (Uhhmm no wonder why almost everybody wants to join).

Aside from games there also raffles for appliances care of the sponsors. Also a very lucky person (Fleurila Galan) was drawn for a dinner -date with F.Cuz ! And the last thing that was given away was an iPhone 5! Harland Dave Narcisso took home the grand prize which was from one of the major sponsors. (Everybody’s eyes were on him that night)

Beneficiaries
As mentioned, the said event was a fund raising activity . And the selected beneficiaries are Gawad Kalinga and PAWS.

Gawad Kalinga’s mission is to end poverty for 5 million poor families by 2024. Gawad Kalinga is building a nation empowered by people with faith and patriotism; a nation made up of caring and sharing communities, dedicated to eradicate poverty and restore human dignity. And they do this by providing homes for less fortunate Filipinos with the help of thousands of volunteers and fund raising activities like this.

Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) exists to prevent cruelty, alleviate pain, fear and suffering in animals, and to promote a society based on humane principles. Another Non-Government Organization which aims to promote proper treatment among all creations and to encourage everybody to take care of the environment and all the animals around us.
